How it aspires the air from inside the shield? Or it is just cooling the top plate of the shield?

I have managed to reverse the fan so hope fully it will pull some air up through shield, but basically I saw this and liked the idea of the fan having its own power supply ie solar panel, which would work on its own. I don't know how well it will work, but I thought I would give it a try.

It have a good look, but I'm just thinking about how do you avoid that the rain gets in to the sensor chamber.
